Sterilization Team Lead:     The Harvard Dental Center (HDC) is a state-of-the art comprehensive dental care facility located adjacent to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.  The HDC operates two dental entities which includes our Teaching Practices, where treatment is delivered by pre-doctoral dental students and advanced graduate dental students under the direction of our world renowned faculty.  The second entity encompasses a Faculty Group Practice, with care provided by Harvard faculty members.  A full service, multi-specialty dental practice, the Faculty Group Practice combines general dentistry along with specialists in areas of dental medicine, and dental hygienists.   Duties and Responsibilities: The Sterilization Technician Lead, working in partnership with management, coordinates the work of three sterilization technicians ensuring adequate staffing, inventory, and workflow to meet the day-to day instrumentation needs of the Harvard Dental Center.  This person will work as part of the team to rotate between both the Washing and the Assembly/Sterilizing sides and service the two floors of the Harvard Dental Center—the Teaching Practices and the Faculty Group Practice. They act as a visible staff member, monitoring productivity and workload of the sterilization process and the dispensing of cassettes and instruments.  The ideal candidate will take the lead and ensure staff are working staggered schedules, all while ensuring a smooth operation and business continuity of the sterilization unit.  The Lead and the Manager will encourage Sterilization Technicians to conduct quality control on each other’s tasks and provide constructive, real-time feedback to ensure all is handled to the utmost standards.   In addition, the incumbent in this role partners with their immediate Manager and the Environmental Health and Safety & Infection Control Administrator—ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Department of Public Health (DPH)—and addressing issues as needed.   The ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in industrial/stationary and portable equipment oversight, medical emergency scenarios, patient confidentiality, and have the ability to consistently interact with faculty, staff, and students in a professional and courteous manner and have demonstrated flexibility working in an evolving workplace, improving oneself, and performing new duties as needed.   Basic Qualifications: (Candidates must meet basic requirements to be considered for this position)   High School Diploma or equivalent. CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) or IAHCSMM certification required. 2+ years experience in a sterile processing role; knowledge of decontamination, assembly, packaging and sterilization procedures.   Additional Qualifications: Proficiency using computers, MS Word and Excel, EHR database (such as axiUm), and electronic folder and record organization. Background working/assisting in an academic institution/dental clinic along with understanding of dental instrumentation, and/or dental assisting is preferred. Strong written and verbal communications in English.  Ability to complete multiple, concurrent tasks, be organized, and plan ahead for upcoming events.  Some experience leading a team. Must be teamwork oriented, a self-starting individual with good judgment and maturity. Must be comfortable delegating to staff. Must see oneself as a positive partner to all members of HSDM/HDC as well as to visitors, vendor contacts, etc.   Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, to move among multiple work stations as needed, to move sterilization racks between stations, to dispense and restock sterilization materials and supplies as needed, and ability to lift up to and no more than 50 lbs. worth of weight and push no more than 200 lbs. of weight.
